Her own life was a problem to Kalpana. It was full of mental and emotional conflicts and she sought an escape from them in the beautiful valley of Kashmir During her sojourn there, Kalpana met Amar, a painter. Amar was a widower and father of Munni. IN each other Amar and Kalpana found what they wanted; but the sudden disappearance of Kalpana from Kashmir jolted Amar. While returning to Bombay by train, Amar met Asha, in his compartment. Asha was travelling to Bombay for an interview at the Bharatiya Kala Kendra fo which Amar was Principal. Asha ultimately got a job there and she used to visit Amar's house, at intervals, where she met Amar's mother and his servant, DeSouza, who had accompanied Amar to Kashmir. Asha and Kalpana had great resemblance and Amar's servant mistook Asha for Kalpana and also misguided Amar's mother who by then had come to treat Asha as her would-be-daughter-in-law and Asha also believed that Amar was in love with her so much so that she did not at all believe that there was a "Kalpana", though Amar tried to clear the misunderstanding on her and his mother's part.

One day Amar received an invitation for a Dance Performance, at the local theatre, where he saw Kalpana performing a dance item, and when he tried to meet her to recollect their past meetings, Kalpana did not respond, presumably because her brother was also present then. However, Amar and Kalpana met again, and their love and intimacy of one knowing the other more closely developed and they indicated their desire to marry. Marriage was Kalpana's life dream, because that only would free her from her mental conflicts. Marriage was what she was longing and living for, which would take her away from the world around her. She wanted to marry Amar, but at the same time, she did not want to hide anything from him, and thereby make him unhappy or to be the cause to create hurdles in the otherwise happy and creditable upbringing of Munni. Often she mustered courage enough to apprise Amar of all these conflicts in her mind, but did not do so, whereas, as ill-luck would have it, one day Thakur Dilip Singh laid open all facts before Amar, at a crucial stage, the truth of which confounded Amar, though his love for Kalpana was very strong and real and nothing neither Thakur, not Society, nor age-old conventions -could deter him from his intentions.

How Kalpana overcame all difficulties in her way, how Asha played her part to see that Kalpana got what she was played her part to see that Kalpana got what she was longing for, and how Amar was convinced of the real sacrifice of Kalpana for the sake of Munni, which ultimately brought Amar and Kalpana together, are revealed in Ashok Pictures Pvt. Ltd's powerful drama "KALPANA".
